Residents of the lakes area, your presence is requested on Monday, Nov. 3, at 6 p.m. at Forestview as the following is discussed:
- 6 roundabouts between 210 and Excelsior.
- 60 mph on 371 through the Baxter business community
- Access to some of your favorite banks, restaurants, and retailers in Baxter will suddenly be restricted, with the current turn lanes being removed, denying the direct access you currently have.
This may sound extreme, but this is exactly the design that has been presented to the Baxter City Council for approval by MnDOT.
I want to encourage everyone to research this project that will forever change the landscape of the City of Baxter. At the public meeting on Nov. 3 everyone has a chance to voice their thoughts on this design. Even if you do not have a comment, to be in attendance to become informed of the proposal is of utmost importance to everyone that lives and works in the lakes area.
The design, as proposed, would negatively affect access to our local businesses, and change the way it “feels” coming up north to our seasonal visitors, of which our area relies on to continue to thrive. If it becomes too complicated or like something in a metropolitan area, some of the charm that attracts people to our area will be lost and visitors may choose to try out another destination for their vacations in the future, which this area simply cannot afford.
The future landscape of Baxter, local business access, residential noise levels, speed limits and so much more are currently in the City Council’s hands. Make sure you take your opportunity to let them know your thoughts so they can make the best decision for our area to thrive, which the current proposal does not accomplish.
