Paid leave is coming to Minnesota. Are you ready?

In 2023, the state legislature enacted Minnesota’s Paid Leave program, which will provide partial wage replacement for workers to care for themselves or a family member. This includes up to 12 weeks of major medical leave and up to 12 weeks of family leave for an employee to care for a family member experiencing a serious health issue, to welcome a new child through birth, foster care or adoption, for certain military-related events or for certain personal safety issues. All employers, including businesses, governments and nonprofits, are required to participate in the program, which will be funded by a new payroll tax and launched on January 1, 2026.

To help you prepare, Minnesota Paid Leave Director Greg Norfleet and DEED staff will join us to:

  • Provide a program overview and requirements, respond to questions, and gather feedback.
  • Share information you need to make sure you’re ready when wage detail reporting begins this October.
  • Connect and establish open lines of communication with employers around the state.
