The Brainerd Lakes Chamber and Brainerd Lakes Area Economic Development Corporation (BLAEDC) are asking Baxter businesses to take a short survey and share their thoughts on the proposed Highway 371 and 210 overpass project.

Earlier this month, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MNDOT) identified a “button hook” layout as its preferred design for the project, which is scheduled for construction in 2028 to 2029. While the goal is better traffic flow and safety, some businesses have voiced concerns about long-term impacts.

“We’ve had a lot of great conversations at our business sessions, but now we need to put that feedback into numbers,” said Matt Kilian, President of the Brainerd Lakes Chamber. “If you own or manage a business in Baxter, this is your chance to help shape what happens next.”

Kilian estimated that the survey, accessible at THIS LINK, will take about 15 minutes to complete and is open through July 3.

The Chamber and BLAEDC plan to share the results with the Baxter City Council on August 5, before a final decision is made on whether to move forward with the proposed design.

“We’re aiming for 50 solid responses so we can show the City and MNDOT where businesses stand,” said Tyler Glynn, Executive Director of BLAEDC. “We’re asking that just one person respond on behalf of each business, ideally an owner or senior manager.”

The survey is not anonymous to ensure the results carry weight and are taken seriously by decision-makers.

“The decisions made this year will affect traffic and business access for decades,” Kilian added. “We need Baxter’s business voice to be heard loud and clear.”

All Baxter businesses, whether Chamber members or not, are encouraged to complete the survey and share it with others.
