In an industry where seasonal turnover is expected, Mount Ski Gull boasts a remarkable 65% return rate among seasonal employees. People don’t just come to work there. They come back, and that speaks volumes to the kind of leader Mata is.

She leads by example, earning trust through action rather than title. There isn’t a job at Mount Ski Gull she hasn’t done herself, and that willingness to roll up her sleeves has created an environment where employees, volunteers, and guests all feel valued.

Beyond the slopes, Mata serves as the head coach of the Brainerd High School girls lacrosse program, where she has helped guide the team through historic seasons while launching middle school and summer programs to create opportunities for future athletes. She previously served on WAVE‘s inaugural Anchor Board and continues support and encourage the next generation of young professionals.

Her passion for connecting people with the outdoors has also led to meaningful partnerships throughout the region. As a Minnesota Master Naturalist, she helped establish the Nature Network, securing grant funding to expand outdoor education opportunities for more than 1,000 participants. She has volunteered with Forestview Nordic skiing, RYDEMN, the City of Nisswa Parks & Trails Commission, local endurance events, and numerous community organizations, always finding ways to help others succeed.

Whether she’s leading a nonprofit, coaching athletes, mentoring staff, or supporting fellow organizations, Mata has become a trusted resource because she’s always willing to share her knowledge, lend a hand, and celebrate the success of others.
