Bob Spizzo

Breezy Point Resort

Drive and determination...

The crowning glory for the Celebration of Excellence will be the presentation of the Business Legacy Award by the Brainerd Lakes Chamber and RiverWood Bank to Bob Spizzo! Developer, visionary and owner of Breezy Point Resort, Bob Spizzo began his journey in 1977. Bob joined Whitebirch, Inc. as a sales person to develop and market 3,000 residential acres surrounding Breezy Point Resort. It was his drive, determination and commitment that presented him the opportunity to go from sales to ownership of the resort in 1981.

Bob made a dream a reality by building an indoor ice arena in Breezy Point to fill rooms during the long winter months and year round. His dream was progressive and many obstacles had to be overcome, but his determination is applauded throughout the resort industry and state.

Under Bob’s leadership, Breezy Point Resort is the home of 750 campsites, 257 timeshare units, convention facility, 120 room hotel, 5 restaurants, 3 indoor pools, three 18 hole golf courses, indoor ice arena, medical clinic, and a 74 unit townhome project. Bob contributes his success to his ‘team’ of 550 employees, some of which have been with Breezy Point Resort for 20 to 65 years!

A family dynasty...

Joining the list of legendary Business Excellence Award winners is LINDAR / Avantech / TRI-VEN! They will be recognized for their leadership, innovation, employee investment and community service. Hy-Tec Construction is proud to sponsor the Business Excellence Award, which will be presented during the Brainerd Lakes Chamber’s premier event of the year!

The Haglin family dynasty started in 1993 with the origination of LINDAR which is a thermoforming manufacturing business. Tom and Ellen quickly added to their manufacturing trifecta by purchasing Lakeland Mold in 2012 and rebranded it as Avantech. The most recent addition to their team of manufacturing facilities is Tri-ven in 2018, which offers rotational molding for proprietary products through partnerships.

Having a ‘team’ of unified family members and 280 employees that support and value each other has helped catapult these businesses to the forefront of the manufacturing industry in the Brainerd Lakes Area. They have also helped lead the design and manufacturing for some of the top brands in the automotive, recreational, agricultural, and construction equipment industries.

Epitome of 'TEAM'

The Brainerd Lakes Chamber and Cub Foods are excited to present the 4th Lakes Proud Small Business of the Year Award to Kavanaugh’s Sylvan Lake Resort!

This year’s Celebration of Excellence theme is ‘Team Up’ and the family of Kavanaugh’s Sylvan Lake Resort are true examples of the definition for the word team: A team is a group of individuals working together to achieve their goal. Team members help one another, help other team members realize their true potential and create an environment that allows everyone to go beyond their limitations. Kavanaugh’s Sylvan Lake Resort has been a family owned and operated resort since 1969. The four Kavanaugh brothers, John, Mark, Dave and Tom, work together daily to ensure business excellence and service to their guests.

Their business plan has evolved over time due to the change in economy and providing for their guests, but they have stayed true to their origins of family serving families with 29 Kavanaugh family members working at the resort over the decades. Hear their inspiring story and help us to celebrate their many accomplishments during our Celebration of Excellence on November 17 at Cragun’s Resort!
