We need to continue the work of building relationships and sense of community. The virtuous cycle that leads to more customers, more workers, and more pride in the community must be renewed by increased outreach, integration, and empowerment.
Communication is only the first step in engagement. I will ask for feedback on proposals, but also for ownership in them. I will never know your business as well as you do, which means that we need to work together to meet the needs of business owners, workers and residents.
I don't mean to lay it on too thick, but the Destination Downtown project has been an eye-opening success--supporting individual businesses, the broader Downtown District, and a deepening sense of community for the entire Lakes Area. The challenge is to continue this momentum through the pandemic into a post-COVID world.
Nobody can do this work alone. I am asking for your vote, but I am asking for more than that. I humbly ask for your support and guidance as we work together to build a better Brainerd.
